Darrin Brown is a musician, teacher, and student of music with over forty years of experience. He began playing drums at just five years old, and transitioned to guitar at age twelve and found his lifelong passion. He has extensive experience with church music, jazz combo, big band, and professional studio recordings. He also composes music and has recorded some of his own songs. His musical interests are praise and worship music, southern gospel, country, bluegrass, jazz. He plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and is currently learning violin and mandolin.
After some time away from being a student to start a family, he completed his Associate of Arts degree at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas. As a former student of the Mineral Area College music program under the esteemed Carol Moore, he is excited to join Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy to share his experience and invest in a new generation of players.
Darrin uses a well-rounded approach of music theory, ear training, and encourages his students to study the instrument in addition to the genre in which they perform. His focus is tone, taste, and technique, and his motto is "always be a student."
