The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
Meet the Director- Mrs. Daisy Benz
Daisy Benz is honored to have been chosen to be the artistic director for Mineral Area Fine Arts Academy’s production of The Sound of Music. She attended Mineral Area College as a Speech and Drama major on a Theater Scholarship from 2001-2003 and it was there on the stage where she fell in love with her husband, Tim, during the spring production of The Music Man in 2002. Being on the other side of the stage, directing her husband and their two children, has been quite the full circle experience for her. Daisy is currently in her thesis term at Lindenwood University and will graduate with her MFA in Creative Writing four days after The Sound of Music closes.

Meet the Director- Mrs. Kala Loughary
Kala Loughary is thrilled to guest direct for MAFAA this summer. Kala has over 25 years of experience in Theatre. She is currently the director of the Farmington High school Theatre Department. Kala graduated from MAC in 2003 with her AA in Theatre and has many years of experience both onstage and off. She is currently working on her Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of Idaho.
