A community concert band for musicians of a High School level and above. This group will meet weekly on Mondays in the MAC Band Room from 7-9 pm. The repertoire will include a variety of styles and span a wide range of difficulty as we rehearse to prepare music for a fall concert, winter concert and spring concert.
A full-size, jazz big band that will rehearse a specific concert repertoire, every 8-weeks and conclude with a public concert at the end of each session. This ensemble was originally geared to high school/college students, but is open to all in the community of any age (must have a high school level degree of playing ability). The Big Band would consist of Alto Saxes, Tenor Saxes, Bari Sax, Trumpets, Trombones, Piano, Bass, Guitar, Vibraphone, Drums, Auxiliary Percussion and Vocalist(s).
An auditioned Ensemble for Kids! Ages 8-15 (Those in Encore! last year, do not need to audition) Course Description: This is an exciting choir for students as they learn how to read music, practicing both unison and part singing. They will creatively apply fundamentals of singing to include correct breathing, posture, diction, expression and articulations needed in excellent tone production as an independent singer and achieve choral blend and balance as a choir member.
This group will have the opportunity to perform at MAC Choral concerts, MAC Home games and the annual Dessert Theater, MAFAA recitals, community events and vocal festivals to represent the Mineral Arts Fine Arts Academy. Students will enjoy singing across a wide variety of musical styles with united voices in harmony through unique performance opportunities! 4:30-5:45pm will kick off each rehearsal with fun, games and musical interaction, where students can participate in leadership roles, earn prizes, socialize and so more! Email sfrancis@mineralarea.edu to set up your audition!
Non-auditioned Ensemble for Kids! A minimum of 10 students must be enrolled.
Do you love to sing with friends and learn music in a fun, hands-on way? This choir is for you! Students will learn the fundamentals of singing alone and with others through a variety of learning activities that include movement, games and musical exploration. Students will discover and apply basic singing techniques across a wide variety of music styles and have the opportunity to perform during the MAFAA recitals. We'll kick off each rehearsal with games and social interaction where students can earn prizes and more! This class is a prerequisite for the Encore! Kids Chorale.
This ensemble is designed for students 12 and up with a minimum of one year band experience desiring an accelerated rehearsal atmosphere in order to enhance their own school band program and prepare for more advanced ensembles such as the MAC Community Band. Our vision for this group is to provide a community of students with the opportunity to network with each other while providing an encouraging and motivating atmosphere that will sharpen their rehearsal techniques, sight reading skills, and more. With Mrs. Linda Huck and Mrs. Sandra Stoeckel on the podium as the directors of this ensemble, your students are sure to receive the best experience.
Come register at the first rehearsal for new members on August 18!
We meet in the MAC Band Room. Email mineralareama@gmail.com for directions.
Study and perform music from America's unique contribution to the arts: jazz music. It provides an opportunity for music majors and non-music majors alike to learn about significant contributors to the jazz idiom, perform classic and new jazz compositions, and develop the necessary aural skills to function as a unit, providing an enjoyable listening experience to the ensemble members and potential audience. Repertoire and ensemble playing will be the highest priority, focusing on learning to improvise within several forms, including blues, rhythm changes, Bossa's, etc. This class will meet once a week with no prerequisites required.
Any general questions can be directed to Andrew Novara, adjunct at Mineral Area College, at anovara@mineralarea.edu
This class is available through MAC for college credit or through MAFAA without credit.
In this class, you will learn the basics of playing and singing for bluegrass. All acoustic instruments are encouraged to register (Guitar, Bass, Banjo, Fiddle, Dobro, and Mandolin). Discover the structure of a bluegrass song by playing the music from kick-offs to endings. We look at what to play behind verses, choruses, and solo breaks in bluegrass songs. We encourage students to work on singing and solos while the teacher leads songs at first. As students gain confidence with their parts, the teachers hand the reins over, and students are invited to share their solos and rhythm and lead songs in class. Play-along tracks and charts are all provided. This class is a fun and challenging way to work out your bluegrass chops while learning to play with others.
Mineral Area Guitar Ensemble is open to music majors and non-majors alike. Its purpose is to build sight-reading, ensemble skills and performance skills. The ensemble performs both on and off-campus. No audition is required as a prerequisite, however experience with sight-reading is preferred. This class is available through MAC for college credit or through MAFAA without credit.
