Music Courses

Group Piano Class

$120 for the 8-week session

  • Chord Reading on Piano w/Kevin White (Ages 12-18)

Monday's at 4pm

Students will learn how to construct every conceivable modern chord symbol and how to apply each from any starting point. All major key signatures will be taught as part of this method. Students will be shown how to create their own accompaniments from chords. Beginners are welcome! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Monday's at 5pm

Students will learn how to construct every conceivable modern chord symbol and how to apply each from any starting point. All major key signatures will be taught as part of this method. The course will also offer instruction on which notes of the chord can be deleted and still achieve the color of the chord for piano, guitar, and vibraphone voicings. Students will be instructed on how to create their own accompaniments. Beginners are welcome! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.


  • Homeschool Beginning Class Piano w/Marilyn Moore (Ages 7-12)

Thursday's at 12pm **THIS CLASS IS FULL**

Learn to play the piano in a class setting while making new friends along the way! Students will learn the basics of piano and simple note and rhythm reading while working their way through the Alfred Piano Curriculum. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Beginning Class Piano w/Marilyn Moore (Ages 7-12)

  • Class Piano w/Isaac Hallock (Ages 12 and up)

Thursday's at 5pm

Class piano is designed for students who are new to playing the piano. However, this class will be structured to accommodate all levels of piano! These students will receive knowledge of the instrument, proper posture, hand placement, pedaling, and basic score reading. This class will participate in the recital at the end of the 8-week session.


Materials needed: Class Piano lesson book, #2 pencil, and a score friendly eraser.



Group Ukulele Class

$120 for the 8-week session

  • Beginning Ukulele with Regina Vaughn (Ages 7-12 )

Monday's at 5pm

We’ll learn the basics of chord formation, and easy strumming techniques. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Required Materials : *ukulele tuned GCEA,3-ring binder,(optional) *digital tuner. Print music will be provided.

Tuesday's at 2pm

What’s the latest craze in music education these days? Playing ukulele, of course! This small stringed instrument is fun, portable, relatively inexpensive and easy to play. This course is designed for beginners. Students will learn about the instrument, basic chords, strumming patterns, and play a variety of songs from genres such as folk, country, pop and more! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Group Guitar Class

$120 for the 8-week session


  • Beginning Guitar w/Regina Vaughn (Ages 12 and up)

Monday's at 7pm

We’ll learn all the notes in first position, and use that knowledge to play as an ensemble. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Beginning Guitar w/Sherry Francis (Ages 18 and up)

Wednesday's at 3pm

If you are a beginner at guitar and want to develop playing skills and song repertoire, this is the class for you! Students will learn basic chords along with rhythm and strumming patterns to play a wide variety of musical styles from fold, country, gospel and pop. This class is designed for adults who want to start playing simple, fun, and quick to learn tunes! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Beginning Guitar w/Sherry Francis (Ages 12-18)

Wednesday's at 4pm

Pick up your six string and learn how to play basic chords and a variety of songs from traditional hymns to county and pop favorites! Students will earn fundamentals about the guitar, simple chords, how to read and play chord charts and multiple rhythm and strumming patterns. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Wind Instrument Classes

$120 for the 8-week session

  • Intermediate Level Low Brass (trombone, baritone, tuba) w/Kurt Bauche (Ages 12-18)

Monday's at 3pm

Instruction will include fundamental techniques specific for instruments in the low brass family. Print music will be provided. All instruction will be driven toward improving fundamentals and preparing for the recital at the end of the 8 week session. Students must be proficient on their instrument with at least one full year of experience.

  • Advanced Level Low Brass (trombone, baritone, tuba) w/Kurt Bauche (Ages 14-18)

Monday's at 4pm

Instruction will include fundamental techniques specific for instruments in the low brass family. All instruction will be driven toward improving fundamentals and preparing for the recital at the end of the 8 week session. Extra emphasis will be placed on material for Missouri All-District and All-State Band, and MSHSAA solo/ensemble festival.

  • Clarinet Choir for intermediate-advanced levels w/Mari Porter (ages 14 and up)

Monday's at 5pm

A small community ensemble for intermediate to advanced clarinet players including students and community members. This ensemble will rehearse a specific concert repertoire and conclude with a concert at the end of each session. Participants will learn a variety of music for clarinet choir as well as clarinet fundamentals and instrument specific techniques. The instrumentation of clarinet choir will include Eb Soprano Clarinet, Bb Soprano Clarinet, Eb Alto Clarinet, Bb Bass Clarinet and Contra-alto or Contrabass Clarinet.

  • Homeschool Beginning Saxophone w/Amanda Dement (Ages 11-18)

Tuesday's at 12pm

Instruction will include basic fundamental techniques for saxophone. Print music will be provided. All instruction will be driven toward improving fundamentals and preparing for the recital at the end of the 8 week session.

  • Homeschool Beginning Flute w/Amanda Dement (Ages 11-18)

  • Intermediate Saxophone w/Amanda Dement (Ages 12-18)

Tuesday's at 4pm

instruction will include improving tone, control of embouchure and building on the fundamentals. Scales will be introduced to improve sight reading and technical abilities. Print music will be provided. All instruction will be driven toward improving fundamentals and preparing for the recital at the end of the 8 week session. Students must have completed at least 1 year of instruction on saxophone.

Students must be proficient on their instrument with at least one full year of experience.

  • Intermediate Trumpet w/Kevin White (Ages 12-18)

Tuesday's at 4pm

The goal will be for each student to develop a reliable and comfortable embouchure that is efficient and can be built upon for future advancement. Trumpet music rudiments will be covered in all areas of trumpet pedagogy. There will be much one-on-one instruction and help, even within small group sessions adjusting to each student’s needs. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Students must be proficient on their instrument with at least one full year of experience.

  • Advanced Trumpet w/Kevin White (Ages 14-18)

Tuesday's at 5pm

Moving past the trumpet basics, more material will be covered by the students that are playing at a more advanced level. Sight reading transposition, syncopated rhythms, approaching and playing differing music styles, basic improvisation, basic tunes all trumpet players should know, tone, endurance and range. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Advanced Saxophone w/Amanda Dement (Ages 14-18)

Tuesday's at 5pm

Instruction will include sight reading, all major and minor scales and patterns, transposition, and playing of various music styles. Special focus may be added for preparation for honor band auditions. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Intermediate Flute w/Nicole Bunse (Ages 12-18)

Wednesday's at 4pm

This course is for flute students with at least one year of instruction. We will focus on developing a proper flute tone, sight reading, and scales to improve upon fundamentals. As a class we will play multi-part music to create a flute-choir ensemble for our performance at the end of our 8 week course.

  • Advanced Flute w/Nicole Bunse (Ages 14-18)

Wednesday's at 5pm

This course is for flute students with at least two years of instruction and must be proficient in note and rhythm reading.. We will focus on improving proper flute tone, developing vibrato, sight reading, and playing all 12 major scales. As a class we will sight read and learn duets and flute choir music for our performance at the end of this 8 week course.

  • Homeschool Beginning Clarinet w/Marilyn Moore (Ages 12-18)

Thursday's at 1pm

Join a group of students and learn to make music together! Instruction will include fundamental techniques specific for clarinets. All instruction will be driven toward improving fundamentals. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Homeschool Beginning Percussion w/Amanda Dement (Ages 11-18)

Instruction will be focused on basic note reading/rhythms and basic playing technique on the xylophone and drum.

  • Recorder Karate w/Marilyn Moore (Ages 7-12)

Thursday's at 5pm

Karate! Students will begin learning to play the soprano recorder in a fun and engaging way! Reading melodies and rhythms from the music staff to learn songs and earn karate belts to display on your recorder! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Percussion classes

$120 for the 8-week session

  • Bucket Drumming w/Sherry Francis (Ages 12-18)

Thursday's at 4pm

Students will play multiple rhythms, timbres and tempos on buckets of various sizes and materials with drumsticks and mallets! Bucket drumming, or sometimes known as “street drumming” is intensely interactive and fun! It is full of percussive sounds and creative music arrangements that really rock to the beat! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.


Required materials: 1 inch, 3 ring binder and pencil




General Music Classes

  • Fundamentals of Music w/Sherry Francis (3-5th grade)

Thursday's at 1

Sing, play instruments and move to the beat in an extraordinary class that brings music to life through a hands-on method! Students will learn basic note reading, fundamentals of singing, and gain an appreciation and understanding of the music around them. This class will also explore multicultural music as each session focuses on a different country as we journey around the world! Incredible surprises await upon each travel destination from djembe drumming to a 15 foot dancing dragon! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Fundamentals of Music w/Sherry Francis (K-2nd Grade)

Thursday's at 2pm

Sing, dance, play instruments and explore music in an exciting, hands-on approach! Students will begin to read music in a fun way and interact with music through sound stories, creative movement and musical games. This class is educational, multicultural and a total musical adventure! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Miscellaneous

  • Chime Choir w/Isaac Hallock (Ages 14-adult)

Monday's at 6pm

This ensemble acts as a prerequisite or entry level course for our Handbell choir (coming soon). Students taking this course will learn the fundamentals of ringing hand chimes/choir chimes. The ability to read music is highly recommended. This class will participate in the recital at the end of the 8-week session.

Materials needed: handbell gloves, #2 pencil, and score friendly eraser. Music will be provided.


  • Appreciation of Fine Arts (Ages 12 and up)

Tuesday's at 2pm

Students will study and analyze many examples of Fine Art (music, acting, visual art, etc) as a group and gain an understanding of what makes it

relevant to it's genre. A truly fun way to be introduced to art in many different forms.

Required materials: pencil and notebook


  • Appy Hour (Level 1) w/Sherry Francis (Ages 12-18)

Tuesday's at 5pm

A new and innovative way to make music with cool beats and rockin’ rhythms right from your smart device! This class uses creative musical apps for compositions, layering instrumentation from retro fun to hip hop, rhythm and blues and more! It’s super fun and definitely an “Appy Hour” you won’t want to miss! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Required materials: Smart device (phone, iPad or laptop), ear buds, pencil, notebook and folder


  • Appy Hour (Introductory Level) w/Sherry Francis (Ages 7-12)

Tuesday's at 6pm

A new and innovative way to make music with cool beats and rockin’ rhythms right from your smart device! Create your own songs while learning how to keep time with metronome apps and experimenting with apps that change your voice! This cool “Appy Hour” is fun for everyone! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Required materials: Smart device (phone, iPad or laptop), ear buds, pencil, notebook and folder


  • Beginning Improvisation w/Dennis Mayberry (Ages 12 and up)

Tuesday's at 6pm

This class will explore the basic mechanics of improvising. We will explore the most often used keys used for improvisation and various forms of those keys. A basic understanding and willingness to compose music on the spot is a must. Ear training exercises will help you identify forms and your reaction to those forms. We will explore various scales and modes that can be used to be a successful solo artist. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

Students must be proficient on their instrument with at least one full year of experience.

  • Music Theory w/Kevin White(Ages 12-18)

Wednesday's at 4pm

This class will adjust itself to the knowledge of the individuals/group every 8-week session. Music theory will first cover all fundamentals that are involved and applicable in every style of music (keys, scales, clefs, rhythms, notation, etc.). From that point instruction would move forward to how harmony and chords work and are utilized by composers/songwriters within their music.

  • Advanced Improvisation w/Austin Sikes (Ages 12 and up)

Wednesday's at 6pm

This course is for the development of improvisational skills as related to the style of jazz. The purpose of this class is to teach students the advanced elements of improvisation on their instrument by using jazz articulation and phrasing, idiomatic melodic patterns and phrases, as well as jazz standards and scales. Students enrolled in this class should be proficient in some major scales and have at least 2 years experience on their instrument. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Appreciation of Fine Arts (Ages 12 and up)

Vocal Classes

$120 for the 8-week session

  • Gospel Choir w/Isaac Hallock (Ages 14-adult)

Monday's at 7pm

Students in this course will learn how to blend their voices together while singing some of the most well known spirituals and gospel songs. We will also utilize various vocal exercises that will help the singer to develop stronger breath support, agility and precision while singing.

Materials needed: choral music folder, #2 pencil with a score friendly eraser.


  • Homeschool Youth Choir w/Sherry Francis (Ages 12-18)

Tuesday's at 1pm

This vocal ensemble is for girls and boys ages 12-18. The youth choir will sing a wide array of choral literature while learning and applying vocal skill and technique. Singers will lift voices in harmony and experience unique performance opportunities! It’s sure to be a great time! Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • Beginning Voice w/Isaac Hallock (Ages 12 and up)

Tuesday's at 5pm

Beginning Voice is designed to give students aged 12 and up an introduction into the world of singing.Students will learn how to develop proper singing techniques ranging from breathing, range/passagio, singing with dynamics and telling the story. This class will participate in the recital at the end of the 8-week session.

Materials needed: Students will be required to purchase their individual song selections (once assigned by the instructor), 3-ring binder, # 2 pencil, and a score friendly eraser.


  • Intermediate Voice w/Isaac Hallock (Ages 12 and up)

Tuesday's at 6pm

Intermediate Voice is designed for students aged 12 and up who have either completed beginning voice or who have been placed into this class through a placement audition with the instructor. Students will continue to build upon the basic singing techniques and begin learning how to work through their passagio, identify and correct singing problems and improper technique, researching and developing the story behind the song. This class will participate in the recital at the end of the 8-week session.

Materials needed: Students will be required to purchase their individual song selections (once assigned by the instructor), 3-ring binder, # 2 pencil, and a score friendly eraser.



  • Children’s Choir w/Amanda Dement (Ages 7-14)

Thursday's at 4pm

This vocal ensemble is for girls and boys ages 7-14. We will focus on vocal technique and what it takes to be a good vocalist. We will sing unison, 2 and 3 part songs. There will be a focus on canon style singing as well. Students in this class will participate in the recital at the end of the session.

  • MAC Singers w/Sherry Francis (College-for credit)

Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 11AM

MAC Singers perform a variety of music styles from exhilarating spirituals to modern classics and everything in between! MAC Singers has planned concerts, community performance events, choir team building activities, socials, traveling and so much more! The class is open for anyone who loves to sing and college course credit will apply to any degree program.

  • Community Jazz Ensemble (Ages 16 and up)

Tuesday's at 7pm

A full-size, jazz big band that will rehearse a specific concert repertoire, every 8-weeks and conclude with a public concert at the end of each session. This ensemble was originally geared to high school/.college students, but is open to all in the community of any age (must have a high school level degree of playing ability). The Big Band would consist of Alto Saxes, Tenor Saxes, Bari Sax, Trumpets, Trombones, Piano, Bass, Guitar, VIbraphone, Drums, Auxiliary Percussion and Vocalist(s). This class is offered through the mineral Area Music Academy or if you wish to have college credit, through Mineral Area College.



  • Community Singers w/Sherry Francis (High School and UP)

Thursday's at 7pm

A dynamic, non-auditioned choral ensemble comprised of college students, high school students and singers from the community. Community Singers perform a variety of music styles with concerts every 8 weeks and community performance events! This season, Community Singers will present the ever-popular Magnificat by John Rutter and the traditional classic, Handel’s Messiah.
